MARTYR RUCHER KUMAR KOUL

Patriotism is fundamentally a belief that India having the best among the world. To protect the "Mother India", every Indian is ready to sacrifice his life and considers himself lucky for their contribution towards motherland.
Martyr Rucher Kumar Koul, one of the brave son of "Mother India" who sacrificed his life to protect the motherland.He was born on 4th of July, 1958 into a Kashmiri Pandit family in Bhaderwah (Bhaderkashi), a beautiful town of district Doda of Jammu and Kashmir.His father,Vidya Prakash Koul was a school teacher and his mother Santosh Koul was a homemaker.Since from his childhood he was associated with Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS) which instilled in him the true spirit of nationalism.As he grew older, the respect for the nation also grew in him.He got his education from ITI Bhaderwah where he was introduced to electrical and electronic field.After that he opened an electronic shop in the town.He was influenced from the ideology of Dr.Shyma Prasad Mukherjee and joined Bhartiya Janta Party.In short period of time, he became a young, dynamic and active leader in Bhaderwah. Because of his great leadership qualities, he make his place in the hearts of hundreds of people of Bhaderwah and its adjoining areas.He was committed to his region and nation. In 1989,he was married to a Bhaderwahi girl namely Sudershan Devi Koul.
During 90's ,the Pakistan based terrorism was at its peak in Kashmir valley. Every terrorist is equipped with advanced weapons like AK 47,UMG, grenade launchers etc. These terrorists forced Hindu Kashmiri Pandits to convert to Islam or leave the Kashmir or die.Hundred of Kashmiri Pandits was killed,womens was raped,their houses and temples was burnt on the name of Jihad. Thousands of Kashmiri Pandits ran away from Kashmir.
After this , these terrorists wants to spread the terrorism in other places of Jammu and Kashmir.They selected their next target erstwhile district Doda in Jammu province. There are two reasons behind choosing this target.First one is the district is full of mountains with deep forests and ravines,natural caves which is suitable for the escapes and guerrilla war fare. Second one is that the people lives their was truly nationalist.They think if Hindus were uprooted from here then they will automatically left other places in J&K.These massacres where intended for the ethnic cleansing of the Hindus in erstwhile Doda District on the lines of Kashmiri Pandits.So they started their violent attacks on 15th of August 1992 on different places of the district to create the panic situation in the region. To create even more fear in people they brutally killed two students who visited forest to bring back their cattle and collect firewood.Their eyes was gorged, heart and liver were taken out from their bodies.People of the whole area was living under fear. There was no security forces and the local police was incapable to do anything.At that time the government was fast asleep. People had no hope of survival. Then only to save the people and to end this violence against Hindus, there comes a young man, Rucher Kumar Koul.He filled enthusiasm and nationalism in the people.He created a army of young men in almost all villages and colonies in the erstwhile district Doda.Against AK 47s and UMGs common villagers fought back with lathis, desi guns and Kattas.First time in Sartingal village of Atkhar area of Bhaderwah ,the common villagers with full of nationalism fought against terrorists.Ruchir Kumar Koul had given the responsibility of security to the young men in every village and colony.With the result,these terrorists are suffered from heavy loss of men and material.
On the other side government was in deep slumber ,neglecting the people of erstwhile Doda district like they neglected the kudos of Kashmiri Pandits.To awaken the government, a mass strike was called out by Rucher Kumar Koul for 41 days.Shopkeepers observed continue strike for 28 days,nationalist government employees refused to do work and common people was full of anger against the government.
Plans of Pakistani terrorists were getting failed,now Rucher Kumar Koul was on the top in their hitlist. Many attempts were made by the Jihadis to kill him but everytime they failed.But on 7th June 1994 when Rucher Kumar Koul along with his wife was working in the field near his house and he was gunned down brutally by the terrorists and got martyrdom at the age of 36.He had taken 30-40 bullets all on his chest.He sacrificed himself for his motherland. His death brought high patriotic emotions throughout the erstwhile district Doda especially in Bhaderwah.Martyr Rucher Kumar Koul made his place in the hearts and minds of the people.He showed us how the spirit of nationalism were became a powerful weapon against enemies.He single handedly brings people together against the terrorism.He played a vital role in saving the region from these terrorists.People like Martyr Rucher Kumar will never die and will remain in the hearts of the people forever.
On 7th June every year the people of Bhaderwah celebrates Balidaan Diwas (Martyrs Day) and pays tributes to Martyr Rucher Kumar Koul and other warriors of Bhaderwah and Erstwhile Doda who made the ultimate sacrifice for the community and values of India.
